MORIARTY: HARSH REALITY ON WAY FOR N.J. SENIOR & DISABLED RESIDENTS

Assemblyman Paul Moriarty (D-Gloucester/Camden0 released the following statement Wednesday as the administration began mailing Senior Freeze checks that will not include refunds for this year’s increase in property taxes. Moriarty was the sponsor of 2008 legislation that increased eligibility for the Senior Freeze program. He also sponsored a bill this year that was vetoed by Gov. Chris Christie that would have restored property tax relief for senior and disabled residents:

“The harshness of Gov. Christie’s reverse Robin Hood budget is now on its way, and New Jersey’s senior and disabled citizens will unfortunately be the first to feel the pain. When they open their envelopes and realize the property tax help they were promised is not there, they will sadly have to come to grips with the fact that Gov. Christie decided a tax break for millionaires was more valuable than helping them keep their homes.”
