***MULTIMEDIA PACKAGE*** Prieto, Schaer & Johnson Support Providing Tuition Aid for Undocumented New Jersey Students

(TRENTON) — Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson) and Assembly members Gary S. Schaer (D-Passaic) and Gordon M. Johnson (D-Bergen) issued a multimedia package Wednesday of a news conference they held with advocacy groups in which the lawmakers voiced support for providing undocumented New Jersey students with state tuition aid and announced the introduction of legislation to do the same.

Under current New Jersey law, undocumented students who meet certain requirements are eligible for the in-state tuition rate, but not state financial aid. The fiscal year 2015 budget approved by the Legislature included a provision to extend state financial aid assistance to undocumented students, but it was line item vetoed out by the governor. The members’ legislation would make undocumented students who are eligible for in-state tuition also eligible for state financial aid.

The multimedia package consists of a video of the news conference, in its entirety, and audio of same.
