***MULTIMEDIA PACKAGE*** Wimberly, Spencer, Oliver, Sumter & Tucker Hold News Conference in Support of Bill to End State Takeovers of School Districts

(TRENTON) — Assembly members Benjie E. Wimberly (D-Passaic), L. Grace Spencer (D-Essex), Speaker Emeritus Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex), Majority Conference Leader Shavonda E. Sumter (D-Passaic) and Cleopatra G. Tucker (D-Essex) issued a multimedia package Tuesday of a news conference they held with the Education Law Center to promote legislation to end the state takeover of New Jersey school districts.

The bill (A-3637), sponsored by Wimberly, Oliver, Sumter and Tucker, would eliminate the authority of the state board of education to place school districts under full or partial state intervention via the New Jersey Quality Single Accountability Continuum (NJQSAC), the state’s system of monitoring and measuring educational outcomes in individual districts. The bill also would require that any school districts currently under full or partial state intervention be returned to full local control within one year of the date of enactment.

The multimedia package consists of the news conference, in its entirety and audio of same.
