Oliver & Bramnick Statement on Middlesex & Monmouth Tour of Superstorm Sandy Devastation

Members of General Assembly Complete Second Tour Assessing Damage & Needs

Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver and Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick released the following statements Friday after the General Assembly toured Superstorm Sandy devastation to homes and businesses in Middlesex and Monmouth counties.

Assembly members had an opportunity to see Sandy damage and hear first-hand from residents, business owners and local officials in Middlesex and Monmouth on what needs to be done to rebuild the affected areas.
The Assembly toured Ocean County damage in late November.

Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic): “Touring Sandy-devastated communities and hearing directly from residents and business owners has provided our members with invaluable insight we could not have received from our seats in the State House.

“Today also has taught us something important. Although rebuilding needs are similar, each storm-ravaged community presents its own unique set of challenges. Those particular needs must be addressed in our recovery planning as well.

“We will assess what we’ve seen and heard over the last few months and work together to rebuild our communities with resilience and stability in mind. We have much to accomplish for our people and New Jersey’s future.”

Bramnick (R-Morris/Somerset/Union): “The destruction to homes in Middlesex and Monmouth counties caused by Superstorm Sandy was devastating. It will take time to rebuild these communities, but we will do everything we can to get our neighbors back on their feet.”
