OLIVER & CRYAN: NEW JERSEY REJECTS HATE

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) and Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Cryan (D-Union) released the following statements Friday on Saturday’s neo-Nazi rally in Trenton:
SPEAKER OLIVER:
“Free speech rights are among the many, many reasons why America is a great country, but so is the great diversity that has helped this country become the melting pot that welcomes and embraces people of all races and creeds.
“Free speech rights may give people the right to spout ignorance, but that doesn’t mean we have to listen to it. New Jerseyans of good will should spend their Saturday – and each and every day for that matter – embracing our great diversity. The strong bond between us and that has helped make this a great state cannot be broken by horrible hate speech.”
MAJORITY LEADER CRYAN:
“New Jerseyans may respect free and open speech, but we will always reject hate.
“It’s a sad shame that a few people would spend their time spewing hateful thinking that generations of Americans have fought and sacrificed their lives to defeat, but their ignorance will win over no one. Ignorance always loses.”
