OLIVER: O’DONNELL’S STRONG LOCAL ROOTS, FOCUS WILL BENEFIT DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS

Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver Tuesday praised the unanimous selection of Bayonne resident Jason O’Donnell to fill the vacant Assembly seat in the 31st District.

“It is good to see the Hudson County Democratic Organization moving past a rough patch with complete solidarity,” said Oliver (D-Essex). “Mr. O’Donnell’s considerable experience with local fire and municipal services will be a welcome addition to our talented Democratic caucus.”

Mr. O’Donnell, 39, received his Bachelor of Science in fire science from New Jersey City University. He is the director of the City of Bayonne’s Municipal Services Department and is currently on leave from his post as a city fire captain.

“It is a privilege and honor to be asked to serve the residents of the 31st District and the state during this difficult economic time,” said O’Donnell. “It is my hope that my extensive experience with and knowledge of municipal services will help the Legislature find more cost efficient ways to provide New Jerseyans with the quality and level of services they have come to expect.”

Mr. O’Donnell and his wife, Kerry, have a daughter and two sons.

The 31st Legislative District includes the Hudson County municipalities of Bayonne and a portion of Jersey City.

The Speaker said she expects to have Mr. O’Donnell sworn in as a member of the General Assembly sometime in the next few weeks.
