Oliver Stands against Gov. Christie’s Proposal to Raid Horizon Reserves

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) issued the following statement Friday commending Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto for pointing out the hypocrisy in Gov. Christie’s proposal to raid Horizon’s reserves for his anti-addiction campaign:

“As Speaker Prieto noted, the governor should put this much energy into saving the Affordable Care Act and ensuring New Jersey residents have access to affordable and quality health care. With so much uncertainty in DC, raiding the reserves of the state’s largest provider of health insurance is imprudent.

“The Governor’s proposed action actually sets a precedent. Republicans always lament governmental overreach into the private sector, and yet here’s the Governor proposing to do just that. His actions defy his own party’s platform, and for what, so he can make more TV commercials promoting a national presence for himself? If the governor wants to salvage what is left of his reputation, he should fund it himself.”
