Pinkin Lauds BPU Decision to Open Up Application Window for 1,100 Megawatts of Offshore Wind Capacity

(TRENTON) – Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee Chairperson Nancy Pinkin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement Monday on the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities’ unanimous vote to open up an application window for 1,100 megawatts of offshore wind capacity, the largest single-state offshore solicitation in the country:

“This is major step in making New Jersey the national and global leader in clean energy we ought to be.

“As a concerned citizen of this great state, I couldn’t be happier with BPU’s decision to implement this game-changing initiative.

“Climate change is a real, serious threat, and it is one we must tackle head-on if we hope to leave an inhabitable planet to our children.

“Because of New Jersey’s unique location and resources, we have an opportunity to utilize the copious, renewable and sustainable energy created by offshore wind turbines.

“By promoting the use of wind energy in this capacity, BPU is sending a message that New Jersey is serious about protecting our environment and natural resources.

“This will not only help our planet by moving away from outdated energy sources and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, but will also help New Jersey’s residents through the potential creation of thousands of green jobs.

“As Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee Chairperson, I am looking forward to New Jersey continuing to usher in progressive environmental policies.”
