Assemblyman Troy Singleton has been appointed by Speaker Vincent Prieto to serve as Chair of the Assembly State and Local Government Committee as the 217th legislature begins.
The Assembly State and Local Government Committee focuses on policy and legislation that has a direct impact on state government, as well as legislation dealing with ethics, pensions, election related issues and public employees.
“I’m grateful for the confidence the Speaker has placed in me to fill this role,” said Singleton (D-Burlington). “With so many challenges facing both state and local government these days, I’m eager to role up my sleeves and help find solutions to issues such as our mounting pension liability, expanding access to voting, and making sure government has the tools to operate more efficiently.”
Singleton is beginning his fifth full year representing the 7th legislative district in the Assembly. He was elected to his first full term on November 8, 2011, but was sworn in on November 21, 2011 to fill the unexpired term of Jack Conners who had resigned.
Since joining the Assembly he has sponsored hundreds of bills, focusing heavily on economic growth and fiscal prudence to help revitalize New Jersey’s economy and improve the state’s financial outlook. He has also pushed legislation to address gun violence, protect domestic violence victims and improve educational opportunities for all New Jersey students.
Singleton is a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) Local 255 and currently serves as the Assistant to the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters. He is also the past President of the New Jersey Carpenter Contractor Trust (NJCCT), a network of union carpentry and construction labor. He received his Bachelor of Science in business administration with a specialization in finance from Rowan University.
Singleton is also a member of the VFW Post #3020 Men’s Auxiliary, and a commissioner on the Burlington County Bridge Commission. He is a past member of the Rowan University Board of Trustees, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the Boys & Girls Club of Camden County Board of Trustees.
Singleton represents the 7th Legislative District, which includes the Burlington County municipalities of Beverly, Bordentown City, Bordentown Township, Burlington City, Burlington Township, Cinnaminson, Delanco, Delran, Edgewater Park, Fieldsboro, Florence, Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Palmyra, Riverside, Riverton and Willingboro.
