Prieto: Forward NJ Report Welcome Addition to TTF Discussion

Says Report will be Thoroughly Reviewed amid Upcoming Assembly Hearings

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement Tuesday on the report released by Forward NJ on New Jersey’s deteriorating transportation system:

“Forward NJ’s report is an important addition to the discussion about what must be done to ensure New Jersey has a reliable transportation infrastructure able to create jobs and economic development.
“When I first began talking about this problem earlier this year, I was hoping for a thoughtful and academic discussion focused only on facts, with the key fact being the impending insolvency of New Jersey’s Transportation Trust Fund. I also welcomed input from everyone.
“With those goals in mind, we’ll review this report thoroughly and consider its findings. As we move toward our upcoming hearings on the state’s transportation crisis, I expect it will certainly play a role in our discussion.”

The first special Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee hearing on transportation funding is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Montclair State University. It will be in the conference center on the 7th floor of University Hall.
The second hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Rutgers University. It will be held at the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation in Piscataway.
Additional hearings will be announced in the coming weeks.
