Prieto: Governor Must Take Possibility of Privatized Vehicle Inspections off the Table

(TRENTON) – Assembly Budget Chairman Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement Tuesday after hearing budget testimony from state transportation officials:

“It was concerning today to hear the Christie administration is even considering the possibility of privatizing motor vehicle inspections.
“I understand it has extended the current contract, will be doing a study and considering its options, but requiring inspections at private garages would be a burden on New Jersey’s working residents and any fee involved would be no different than a new tax.
“Amid the hefty 22.4 percent net property tax hike seen under Gov. Christie, such a cost would be painful for working families.
“Gov. Christie needs to take this inconvenient and costly possibility off the table now.”
