Prieto Lauds Visit from Gabby Giffords to Help Turn Spotlight on Guns and Domestic Violence

Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto lauded former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords for coming to Trenton on Wednesday to help spark a dialogue on gun safety and domestic violence.

“It was a great honor to meet Congresswoman Giffords today and I appreciate her taking the time to travel to New Jersey to join us in this important discussion.

“Without question, she has become one of our country’s leading voices on curbing gun violence. She has been an inspiration to us over the last several years as we worked to shepherd through a number of common sense gun safety reforms in the wake of the tragedies at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

“Today the Congresswoman helped us shine a light on the role guns play in domestic violence and how the bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Mosquera (A-4218) can be an effective tool to prevent even greater tragedies in these situations.

“I look forward to seeing this bill work its way through the Assembly so we can turn this important protection into law,” said Prieto (D-Bergen/Hudson).
