Prieto on Assembly Approving Property Tax Relief Legislation Extending 2% Cap on Base Salary Awards

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement Thursday after the Assembly voted 47-22-3 to approve property tax relief legislation (A-3067) to extend the 2 percent cap on base salary awards until Dec. 31, 2017:

“This has proved beneficial to our taxpayers, and absent comprehensive property tax reform, continuing this process is fair to taxpayers and the police and firefighters who protect public safety.
“Now that we’ve reviewed the final report of the task force that studied the 2010 law’s impact, we know this is a reasonable approach that helps control property taxes and protects the rights of police and firefighters.
“This bill ensures the interests of property taxpayers are protected while also ensuring a fairer system for our police and firefighters. That’s beneficial to everyone at this moment in time.”
