Quijano Applauds Gov. Murphy for Executive Order Meant to Keep Public Informed on Gun Violence

Murphy Signed Executive Order 21 on Friday in Asbury Park

(ELIZABETH) – Assembly Judiciary Committee Chairwoman Annette Quijano (D-Union) offered the following statement regarding Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive order meant to publicize gun crimes and the source of the weapons used:

“I applaud Gov. Murphy for taking this important step in our quest as a state to reduce gun violence as much as we possibly can.

“We should be clear: this move does nothing to take guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens; this does not strip anyone of any rights.
“On the contrary, all New Jerseyans have the right to know how severely impacted their communities are by gun violence, and where those guns are coming from.

“In order to effectively fight this problem, we must first understand it by asking ‘why’ and ‘how’ these crimes occur, and that is precisely what this measure does.

“I am proud to say that New Jersey is a leader in attempting to mitigate gun violence, but one death by gun violence is one too many.

“We will continue to fight and learn and legislate so that we can make gun violence a relic of the past.”
