Session Will Provide Information on State & Federal Assistance Programs
(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Annette Quijano (D-Union) will host a Hurricane Maria Evacuee Information Session in Elizabeth on Tuesday, May 8 to assist Puerto Rican families who evacuated to New Jersey after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.
Quijano has been working with the NJ Department of Human Services – which is holding these informative sessions throughout the state – to bring the information session to Elizabeth.
Evacuees will receive information and guidance about the federal and state assistance that may be available to them. “These residents fled their homes and may not be aware that there are programs out there to assist them, or how to even navigate the process,” said Quijano. “This information session will provide the information needed to help them rebuild.”
The session will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at Snyder Academy of Elizabethtown, 42 Broad Street, Elizabeth, NJ. Attendees may park in the center’s rear lot, or the parking garage on Dickinson St. Spanish interpreters will be available during the information session to assist Spanish speakers.
There will be representatives from FEMA, the NJ Department of Human Services Office of Emergency Management, Division of Family Development and the Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services at the session. Representatives from local service/nonprofit organizations have also been invited.
“We encourage all those affected by this disaster who are still struggling to get back to normalcy, to attend and learn about the programs that are out there to help them,” said Quijano.
