Quijano to Introduce Legislation Naming Route 1 as ‘President Barack H. Obama Highway’

(TRENTON) – Assemblywoman Annette Quijano on Monday will introduce legislation recognizing the significant legacy of President Barack Obama by ceremonially renaming parts of Route 1 as the President Barack H. Obama Highway.
“President Obama was a transformational president,” said Quijano (D-Union). “When our children look back on the accomplishments of this president, they will look back in reverence the same way we look back on Franklin Roosevelt. He will be the measure of what it means to be a great president, and I believe memorializing President Obama with the naming of one our most important state highways is a significant honor to bestow.”
Under the resolution, 41 miles of Route 1 from Mercer County to Essex County will be ceremonially named after the 44th President of the United States.
The road will continue to be designated as Route 1, but ceremonial signs will be posted along the highway. The signs would be paid for with private funds.
