(TRENTON) – Assembly Homeland Security & State Preparedness Committee Chair Annette Quijano (D-Union) on Monday issued the following statement denouncing the Trump administration’s executive order on immigration, which she said is fueled by hatred and fear disguised as public safety.
“It is disheartening to see what is happening to this nation of immigrants.
“There is no defending this policy which pits us against each other and actually makes us more vulnerable to potential attacks in the long run. Turning our backs on refugees fleeing atrocities at home goes against the moral fabric of our country. Nothing in this executive order makes America great.
“The only light in all of this darkness is the way the masses have stood up to repudiate the actions of this administration. It is clear that this president will not be shamed into doing the right thing.
“I salute those who have been moved to action in solidarity with friends and neighbors who have been affected by this shameful policy, and urge all of you to continue to lend your voices in reasonable protest against policies that contradict our values and sense of decency. The conscience of our country depends on it.”
