Reynolds-Jackson on U.S. Supreme Court Decision Denying Census Citizenship Question

Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson’s (D-Mercer) statement on the Supreme Court’s decision the Census question case back to the lower courts:

“The Supreme Court’s decision to send the census question back to the lower courts is a signal that regardless of how the White House tries to intimidate and threaten the immigrant community, asking an individual their residency status is not just immoral – but illegal.

“The Census is meant to take an accurate account of all residents, regardless of immigration status. This decision is crucial to the hard-working, community-oriented residents of our great capital city of Trenton, where a complete count is the key to desperately needed funding for the city from the federal government.

“I look forward to continuing my work with community leaders and organizations in order to assure that our most at-risk communities are represented and properly educated on the legal limits of the Census.”
