RILEY: HIGHER ED MERGER PLAN NEEDS CLOSE SCRUTINY

(TRENTON) – Assembly Higher Education Chairwoman Celeste Riley (D-Gloucester/Salem/Cumberland) released the following statement on the recent UMDNJ Advisory Committee report that recommends restructuring such as merging Rutgers-Camden with Rowan University:

“A careful analysis of this report is needed to ensure it does what’s best for New Jersey entire higher education community.
“We cannot look to improve one aspect of New Jersey’s higher education system at the expense of another. For many, the well-respected name of Rutgers-Camden is important, and this merger plan must be an equal-joining of these institutions, not the elimination of one in favor of another.
“This plan has the potential to be a real plus for New Jersey, but only if it’s done correctly. I expect to be holding hearings on this plan, and I look forward to the administration detailing exactly how this merger would be implemented.”
