Schaer Cancels Monday’s Budget Hearing; Reissues Invite to NJ Transit & MVC to Discuss Serious Budget Matters

Assembly Budget Committee Chair Disappointed by Lack of Commitment from Administration Transit Officials

Assembly Budget Chairman Gary S. Schaer (D-Bergen/Passaic) issued the following statement on the cancellation of Monday’s Budget Committee hearing due to the lack of attendance on the part of officials from both the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) and NJ Transit:

“I am disappointed that both departments were unable to prioritize this hearing on their schedules, despite almost two weeks notification.

“The Budget Committee plays a fundamental oversight role and New Jerseyans deserve a responsive administration committed to transparency.

“There are serious budget matters at hand that we had hoped to discuss and, therefore, we would like to reissue the invitation for them to attend the next Assembly Budget Committee hearing on Monday, December 8.

“Chief among the many matters I look forward to hearing about are the implementation and progress of the MATRIX system by MVC, as well as the budget concerns that are preventing NJ Transit from fulfilling its promise to implement one-seat service into New York City.”
