Schaer: Christie Digs N.J. Deeper & Deeper into Fiscal Crisis

(TRENTON) – Assembly Budget Chairman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic/Bergen) released the following statement Friday on Gov. Christie’s budget vetoes:

“Gov. Christie’s policies have once again dug New Jersey deeper and deeper into fiscal crisis.
“His budget implausibly puts the state deeper into debt, negatively affects our state’s future economic growth and causes even more credit rating downgrades and greater interest charges to be paid by New Jerseyans.
“Democrats submitted a plan to balance our budget and fully fund our obligations, but Governor Christie’s fiscal policies continue without direction and review.
“And while increasing the tax credit for working poor families is the right thing to do, it comes after the governor repeatedly rejected several efforts to boost this credit. The working families he looks to help now are the same ones his policies have been hurting for years.
“His stewardship of the state budget has left the state wanting. While we underfund our obligations, we continue to see no plan to the future for transportation, education, higher education, property tax relief, job creation and housing.”
