Schaer Statement on Assembly Budget Committee Public Hearing

(GLASSBORO) – Assembly Budget Chairman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic/Bergen) released the following statement Wednesday after the Assembly Budget Committee held its second hearing on the proposed state budget for the fiscal year starting July 1:

“Today we heard from many concerned parents about school funding, and what is fair, adequate and necessary to fully meet the needs of our students.
“There is no quick, easy fix, but we remain committed to exploring all options until we reach a solution that is reasonable, responsible and, more importantly, benefits all children.
“We have already started working toward this goal. Under the leadership of Speaker Prieto, we’ve had focused hearings led by Assembly Education Committee Chair Marlene Caride that have provided important insight from experts, taxpayers, parents and others invested in this issue.
“At the end of the day, we all want the same thing — to ensure that all students in New Jersey, regardless of where they live, benefit from an education that is well-rounded and academically enriching.”
