Schaer: With latest budget, Christie fails to live up to promises

(TRENTON) — Assembly Budget Committee Chairman Gary S. Schaer (D-Passaic) had the following published Wednesday in The Record of Hackensack:

“There is no plan to fund our colleges and universities. New Jersey ranks 47th in its contribution to higher education, which must be a priority if the state is to maximize its most precious resource — our children.

“There is no plan for open space funding in our decades-long commitment to ensure clean water, parklands and recreation for our residents.

“There is no plan to fund the state’s Transportation Trust Fund, arguably the most vital component in our economic infrastructure responsible for road and bridge repair and development.

“Given our revenue shortfall, Christie’s response has been to go back to sleep.”
