(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto on Friday announced he’s appointed Assemblyman Troy Singleton as vice chairman of the Assembly Education Committee.
Singleton, of Palmyra, was first sworn into the New Jersey General Assembly in November 2011. Since joining the Assembly, he has sponsored several major education reform initiatives, including legislation to improve education in some of the state’s poorest cities and bills to improve charter schools and teaching training.
“Clearly, improving education is a passion of Assemblyman Singleton,” said Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen). “He is a natural fit for this position and I look forward to seeing him bring his energy, talents and expertise to this new leadership role as we continue striving to make improve education throughout New Jersey.”

Singleton received his Bachelor of Science in business administration with a specialization in finance from Rowan University. He is a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) Local 255 and currently serves as the Assistant to the Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters. Mr. Singleton is the past President of the New Jersey Carpenter Contractor Trust (NJCCT), a network of union carpentry and construction labor.
Singleton also is a member of the VFW Post #3020 Men’s Auxiliary, and a commissioner on the Burlington County Bridge Commission. He is a past member of the Rowan University Board of Trustees, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the Boys & Girls Club of Camden County Board of Trustees.
Singleton and his wife, Megan, have three children.
Singleton represents the 7th Legislative District, which includes the Burlington County municipalities of Beverly, Bordentown City, Bordentown Township, Burlington City, Burlington Township, Cinnaminson, Delanco, Delran, Edgewater Park, Fieldsboro, Florence, Moorestown, Mount Laurel, Palmyra, Riverside, Riverton and Willingboro.
The Assembly Education Committee addresses issues concerning education curricula, school finance, school boards and districts, school transportation, students, teachers, tuition and student aid, vocational and higher education.
