Assemblyman Troy Singleton issued the following statement on the independent review released Tuesday on Stockton University’s purchase of the Showboat Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City:
“The Gibbons Report has shed much-needed light on the circumstances surrounding Stockton University’s purchase and attempted sale of the Showboat. There were many regrettable circumstances that, in hindsight, should never have been pursued.
“All the parties involved share varying degrees of culpability in this unfortunate situation. As a result, substantial public funds were wasted that could have been directed to creating educational opportunities and enhancing access and affordability.
“With the issuance of this report, Stockton can now focus on moving forward and, hopefully, establishing a campus in Atlantic City in the short term. I am confident that under Interim President Harvey Kesselman’s leadership and his principle of ‘students first,’ Stockton University’s future will be extraordinary.”
