Assemblyman Troy Singleton (D-Burlington) offered his heartfelt condolences on Tuesday to the family of U.S. Congressman Donald M. Payne, issuing the following statement:
“Congressman Payne was a true inspiration to many young, aspiring public servants, forging a path that made it much easier for others to follow.
“His mentorship to generations of elected officials was invaluable. He was never too busy to offer encouragement or a word of advice and I will forever look to him as a role model because of his dignified and principled public service.
“His passing is a tremendous loss to us all. My heartfelt condolences go out to his entire family during this difficult time.
“We will all fare better as a state if we follow his examples.”
