(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin announced today that he has appointed Middlesex County Freeholder Shanti Narra as a member of the New Jersey Transit Corporation. Freeholder Narra’s term continues until June 16, 2024.
“I’m very pleased to announce that I have selected Freeholder Narra to the NJ TRANSIT board,” said Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “A commuter herself, Freeholder Narra is well known in my home county of Middlesex for her sense of fairness and dedication to the people she serves. Her hard work on behalf of commuters will position her to be invaluable to NJ TRANSIT.”
Freeholder Narra is a graduate of Georgetown University and Georgetown University Law Center. The longtime New Brunswick resident is a practicing attorney with the Legal Aid Society of New York, where she is a supervisor in the Criminal Defense Division.
“I am honored that Speaker Coughlin has entrusted me with this important appointment,” said Freeholder Narra. “Before the COVID-19 pandemic, I was one of thousands of Middlesex County residents who commuted by bus to New York City every day. I am acutely aware of the issues facing NJ TRANSIT as the agency works to accommodate passengers. I will do everything I possibly can to ensure NJ TRANSIT is a model for the rest of the country in meeting the needs of all bus and rail commuters.”
Freeholder Narra previously served on the North Brunswick Township Planning Board where she was deeply involved in the development of the North Brunswick Transit Village which improved accessibility and helped spur economic growth in the Township. She is also an active member of the North Brunswick Township Community Emergency Response Team and helped run shelter operations in North Brunswick during Super Storm Sandy.
