Speaker Coughlin Applauds Lifting of Utility Moratorium as Sign of New Jersey’s Economic Recovery

Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement in response to Governor Murphy announcing Monday he would lift New Jersey’s utility moratorium and replace it with six-month grace period to help enroll customers in payment assistance plans:

“New Jersey is recovering and the State’s ability to end the moratorium is a sign of that. I applaud the Governor’s decision to ensure a smooth transition for residents most financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic these past 15 months.

“I urge anyone finding themselves behind on their water, gas, or electric payments to take advantage of your provider’s payment assistance plans as well as the state’s utility assistance programs as soon as possible.

“Working with the Governor and Senate President, I remain committed to keeping our safety net programs funded and in place to support those who need them.”
