Speaker Coughlin, Assembly Transportation Chair Benson on NJ Transit Audit Recommendations

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin and Assembly Transportation Chair Daniel Benson issued Tuesday the following statements on the release of the New Jersey Transit audit results:

“The results and recommendations of the audit provide clear insight into the structural and fundamental changes needed to restore NJ Transit as a national leader. This year’s budget which included $167 million in funding for NJ Transit is reflective of the Assembly’s commitment to make NJ Transit a more reliable system for commuters. I look forward to working with my colleagues and Governor Murphy to better serve the thousands of commuters who rely on our public transportation system,” said Speaker Coughlin (D-Middlesex).

“As Chairman, our committee will hold NJ Transit accountable for these reforms and we look forward to working to pass any legislation necessary to move this forward. Now that the Audit is done, NJ Transit riders need timelines and metrics that lead to significantly improved service and communication. Commuters deserve results now,” said Chairman Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex).
