TRENTON (January 23, 2024) — Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin has named Assemblywoman Shama Haider to chair the Children, Families and Food Security Committee in the new legislative session.
This newly formed committee is responsible for considering legislation to improve the lives of families and children and addressing one of the state’s most pressing issues – eliminating food insecurity.
“Chairwoman Haider made an immediate impact in the Assembly and I am looking forward to working with her as Chair of this committee,” said Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “She was a co-sponsor with me on the bill to expand access to free, nutritious meals at school for students in need. I know she will be an effective leader and advocate in this new role, standing up for New Jersey kids and families. She will be an invaluable partner as we move toward our ambitious goal to end hunger in our state by 2030.”
“I share the Speaker’s goal of ending food insecurity in New Jersey, and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to chair this important committee,” said Assemblywoman Haider (D-Bergen). “I look forward to listening to advocates and stakeholders as we work together to find ways to end hunger and better the lives of children and families in New Jersey.”
Haider also serves as Deputy Majority Leader and has been a member of the General Assembly since 2022.
