Speaker Coughlin Names Sampson as Chair of the Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee in the 221st Legislative Session

TRENTON (January 24, 2024) —Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin has named Assemblyman William Sampson as chair of the Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee in the new legislative session.

The Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee is charged with protecting consumer rights, particularly issues such as safeguarding against identify theft, restricting telemarketing, and protecting consumers against fraud.

“Chairman Sampson brings valuable perspective to his role at the helm of his important committee,” said Speaker Coughlin (D-Middlesex). “I know he will consider input from all stakeholders in helping to shape legislation as we safeguard the rights of New Jersey families in an ever-evolving world.”

“Too often consumers become victims of fraud and scams,” said Assemblyman Sampson (D-Hudson). “We need to respond to new and sophisticated attempts to steal personal information, and my committee will review legislation to do just that. I am committed to ensuring that our state remains a leader in consumer protection.”

In this session, Sampson also serves as vice chair of the Assembly Labor Committee. He has been a member of the General Assembly since 2022.
