Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) released to following statement today regarding the 2019 General Assembly mid-term elections:
“I am proud that Democrats held our overwhelming majority in the General Assembly last night, marking the first time Democrats have ever retained at least a 50-plus majority in a legislative mid-term.
“Our success included hold seats in districts that were solidly Republican even several years ago and our aggressive strategy to compete across the state allowed us to make inroads in districts that have been Republican for many decades.
“We will continue to build upon those inroads in the election cycles ahead, as we continue to govern in a fiscally responsible way on behalf of working middle class families to achieve that success.”
