Speaker Coughlin Statement on Federal Out-of-Network Reform Bill

(TRENTON) – Following a press conference today, during which U.S. Senator Bob Menendez announced his support for a federal out-of-network reform bill, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement:

“I thank Senator Menendez for his leadership in Washington and for supporting a bill that will be instrumental in protecting individuals across our nation from surprise out-of-network bills.

“Prior to the Out of Network Consumer Protection, Transparency, Cost Containment and Accountability Act being signed into law in New Jersey, it was not uncommon for New Jerseyans to receive surprise bills for inadvertent out-of-network health care.

“By supporting a bill that expands protections to include residents in self-funded plans, Senator Menendez is ensuring a fair and transparent system for all New Jersey residents and is putting patients first.”
