Speaker Coughlin Statement on JBOC Approval of $700 Million Covid-19 Recovery Spending

Assembly Speaker Craig J. Coughlin (D-Middlesex) issued the following statement on Tuesday in response to the Joint Budget Oversight Committee’s approval of the proposed $700 million in American Rescue Plan Act and New Jersey Debt Defeasance and Prevention Fund spending:

“Making strategic investments that set us up for a strong economic future and prioritize one-time, transformative projects has remained our goal in earmarking the federal relief funds.

“The $345 million from our Debt Defeasance and Prevent Fund to support our new wind energy industry is a huge investment in New Jersey’s regional competitiveness and environmental future.

“With American Rescue Plan funding also adding another $80 million to our already more than $1 billion housing security effort, supporting further healthcare resilience and our economic development, this $700 million approved today is going to be significant across many of our communities.”

“With more meetings ahead, the Joint Budget Oversight Committee will continue investments into New Jersey’s future preparedness and our long-term strategy for economic and job growth.”
