Speaker Coughlin Statement on MLK Jr. Day 2018

(TRENTON) – New Jersey General Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin (D-Middlesex) released the following statement Monday on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2018:

“Each year we reflect this day upon Dr. King’s legacy, but it seems this year we must strive even more so to reflect upon his legacy each and every day.
“We’ve seen too many people work to stoke division, but America, as represented by Dr. King’s ideals, is stronger than that. As Dr. King noted, ‘Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.’
“I believe New Jersey and America will decide to walk in that light of altruism.
“Let’s make 2018 the year when we began working together to solve tough problems, when we lifted the least fortunate and when we stood for what’s right and decided – once and for all – to make Dr. King’s dream a reality.”
