SPEAKER OLIVER APPLAUDS PLANS FOR NEW TRANS-HUDSON TUNNEL

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) on Monday applauded the innovative new approach laid out by U.S. Sens. Robert Menendez and Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), along with Amtrak, to address New Jersey’s long-term mass transit needs in light of Gov. Chris Christie’s cancellation of the ARC tunnel:

“This is the type of collaborative leadership that gets things done. I applaud Sens. Lautenberg and Menendez for their efforts.
“Granted, there is a long road ahead of us to see this project through to fruition but the fact that we have various stakeholders coming together to try and make this project a reality is a good sign.
“In terms of easing congestion, creating long-term construction jobs and the overall economic activity that will be generated, this plan represents a tremendous win for our state.
“I’m grateful that the Obama administration is willing to work with our representatives to address the long-term infrastructure needs of our region.”
