SPEAKER OLIVER: CHRISTIE DECISION NOT TO REAPPOINT WALLACE ‘COULD NOT BE MORE DISAPPOINTING’

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement Monday on Gov. Christie’s decision not to reappoint Supreme Court Justice John E. Wallace Jr.:

“Gov. Christie’s decision could not be more disappointing.

“Justice Wallace admirably served our state from the bench for more than 25 years, displaying a keen intellect and an unrelenting respect for civil rights and the law that has never been questioned by impartial observers.

“His seven years on the Supreme Court have been an outstanding example of what it means to employ fair, moderate and just reasoning to protect the rights and liberties guaranteed to all by the Constitution and laws of our state.

“Justice Wallace shattered barriers with dignity and excellence. He deserved better, as did the people of New Jersey he so often strived to protect through the rule of law.

“Gov. Christie’s decision not to reappoint Justice Wallace is a step backward for the administration and unfortunately indicates that politics has pervaded what has rightfully been a process free of partisanship and ideology.”
