Speaker Oliver: Christie Gun Control Actions Welcome But More Work Left

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement Friday after Gov. Christie on Thursday signed 10 gun control bills into law:

“We welcome Gov. Christie’s actions in favor of stricter gun control for New Jersey. I hope national Republicans take notice. After all, these Democratic bills will help combat gun violence and make our streets safer, yet more certainly needs to be done.
“We still need to hear from Gov. Christie on outlawing .50-caliber weapons – a move he’s indicated he would support. The governor also needs to sign our bills to find ways to improve school security and track firearms. And he needs to get behind our effort to restrict ammunition magazines in our state. That’s something everyone should support.
“The people of New Jersey want safer streets. We’re making progress, but the governor cannot stop here. He needs to finish the job.”
