SPEAKER OLIVER: CHRISTIE RACE TO TOP GAFFE ‘A STUNNING $400 MILLION MISTAKE’

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement Wednesday after The Star-Ledger reported the Christie administration lost a chance to receive $400 million in Race to the Top funding by 3 points after it answered a 4.8-point question incorrectly.

“This is a stunning $400 million mistake that is going to hurt New Jersey’s children.
“I expect better than this on an issue this important to New Jersey taxpayers, and I expect the Christie administration to readily explain how they failed to answer such a basic question correctly.
“It’s astonishing that the administration’s failure to proofread their own homework would lead to losing out on this funding that could have gone such a long way toward improving our educational system.”
