SPEAKER OLIVER: GOV. CHRISTIE MAKES CLEAR HE STANDS WITH MILLIONAIRES OVER SENIOR CITIZENS

Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement Thursday on Gov. Chris Christie’s veto:

“Gov. Christie has made it clear that he stands for millionaires over our most vulnerable senior citizens. That’s disappointing. Our plan simply asked our 16,000 most fortunate residents to share in the sacrifice to help more than 600,000 senior and disabled residents. It was a compassionate plan that wasn’t too much too ask to protect our parents, grandparents and neighbors. Our priority was protecting vulnerable elderly and disabled residents. Gov. Christie’s priority is now indisputably protecting tax cuts for the wealthy. Gov. Christie has taken an unfortunate approach that raises taxes and fees on everyone but the rich.”
