SPEAKER OLIVER ON DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY 2011

Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement on Monday:

“Today we commemorate another Martin Luther King Jr. Day knowing that while we have made great progress, we must continue our work toward accomplishing Dr. King’s dream.

“We also must remember that Dr. King’s dream cannot be accomplished piecemeal.

“We must move forward with a comprehensive approach that tackles the social, educational and economic woes that have prevented us from fully realizing Dr. King’s dream. These problems are interwoven. One cannot be solved without solving the others.

“It was Dr. King who once said, ‘Equality means dignity. And dignity demands a job and a paycheck that lasts through the week.’

“On this day and in this time, that is a goal we must share for all New Jerseyans as we continue moving toward equality for all.”
