(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement on Tuesday lamenting the passing of longtime Essex County Democratic Chairman Phil Thigpen:
“We have lost a great leader not just in the Democratic Party, but in New Jersey politics.
“Mr. Thigpen was a leader among leaders, who earned the respect of all of those who knew him for his commitment and dedication to the party and its values. His contributions to Essex County are varied and date back decades and have certainly earned him a spot in Essex County history.
“My deepest condolences go to his family.
“He will be truly missed.”
