Speaker Oliver to join Saturday Gun Violence Prevention Rally in Jersey City

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver will join the One Million Moms for Gun Control rally Saturday in Jersey City to draw attention to the need for tougher gun violence prevention measures on the state and federal level.
“In every community across the nation, we felt the despair and helplessness of the families of Sandy Hook,” said Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic). “We were reminded of a vulnerability that will persist if we, as lawmakers, do not act responsibly. I look forward to standing with other New Jersey supporters for what we all know to be true – that New Jersey needs action, not more talk. We also need enforcement, not excuses, to improve gun safety and mental health services throughout the state.”
One Million Moms for Gun Control is an action group formed after the nation’s worst school shooting in Newtown, Ct.
Coinciding with a march in Washington also taking place on Saturday, local chapters of the group are holding rallies around the country, including the New Jersey Chapter that has partnered with Jersey City.
The Jersey Strong Rally for Gun Control will be held in Jersey City’s Lincoln Park at Westside and Belmont Avenues on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
