Speaker Oliver: U.S. Senate Vote Deeply Disappointing but Fight Not Over

Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic) released the following statement on Wednesday:

“The vote in the U.S. Senate was deeply disappointing. It’s hard to imagine elected representatives standing in the way of meaninful progress after so much sorrow, especially when a large majority of the American people supported the bill.

“Yet, I take heart in knowing this national debate is not over. President Obama, former U.S. Rep. Giffords, the families of those who lost their precious loved ones to gun violence and those who support common sense reform will prove stronger than those who prefer the status quo. They and this cause will not be defeated by today’s shameful vote.”
