(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver is hosting a turkey giveaway for residents of the 34th district on Tuesday, November 22, 2011. The turkeys will be distributed at various locations throughout Essex and Passaic counties.
“This is a tough economic time for many families in New Jersey. We realize not all families will be able to afford a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings,” said Oliver (D-Essex/Passaic). “We want families to enjoy this wonderful holiday without worry about how it will impact their checkbooks, so I encourage all residents of the 34th district who could use a little financial cushion this holiday to stop by one of the giveaway locations for a turkey.”
Turkeys will be given away to several organizations for distribution to residents. Each organization will have a limited supply. The following organizations are participating:
- Isaiah House
- Sierra House
- East Orange Economic Development Corp.
- East Orange Family Success Center
- City if East Orange Division of Senior Services
- East Orange Family Success Center
- City of Orange Division of Senior Services
- Montclair Child Development Center
- Montclair Neighborhood Development Corp.
- New Hope Baptist Church
- City of Clifton
- Clifton Boys and Girls Club
“Thanksgiving is one of our most treasured holidays. It is a day of gratitude, family and good eating. No dinner table should go without the signature dish on Thanksgiving Day. I wish all our residents a happy and blessed Thanksgiving Day,” said Oliver.
