Speaker Prieto: Christie & GOP Must Put NJ First & Fight House Health Care Bill

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement Tuesday on the House Republican health care plan:

“Gov. Christie needs to immediately get on the phone to his friend President Trump and urge him to reject this House Republican health care debacle. The governor has touted his access to President Trump. Now is the time to take advantage of it.
“This so-called plan would substantially cut back funding to states that cover poor adults through Medicaid. That’s devastating to New Jersey, especially to our efforts to combat the opioid epidemic. We cannot stand idle as our bipartisan effort is torn apart.
“New Jersey also cannot back any plan that would cut financial assistance for low-income residents while offering new financial benefits for the upper-middle class and the rich. Any plan that shifts costs to New Jersey and our hospital systems while subjecting individuals to higher deductibles and copayments must be a non-starter.
“The governor and Republicans on our Congressional delegation must do the right thing and oppose this plan. Our state’s wellbeing must be more important than politics.”
