Speaker Prieto Decries Ruling Delaying President Obama’s Common Sense Plan to Fix Immigration System

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement on Wednesday:

“I’m very disappointed in the court ruling temporarily blocking President Obama’s executive action on immigration. The only thing this ruling accomplishes is delaying the American Dream for many families. That is unfortunate, unnecessary and sad, and a blow to efforts to boost the economy and keep communities safe.
“This much is clear: the federal government can set priorities in enforcing immigration laws, which is the main purpose of the President’s common sense plan to fix the immigration system. Scholars, immigration experts and others have determined that the President’s actions are within his legal authority.
“The immigration system is broken, and any decision to delay the President’s plan based on faulty reasoning only exacerbates the problems. It’s time to put politics aside and do what’s right, and that means allowing the President’s plan to move forward.”
