Speaker Prieto: Democracy Act Should Become Law

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto released the following statement Tuesday after a new poll from Rutgers University’s Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling showed significant support for legislation he sponsored (The Democracy Act – A-4613) to update New Jersey’s voting laws:

“This poll affirms this simple fact – the people of New Jersey want changes to our voting laws and they don’t want to wait. This bill stands strong on the policy and now it’s clear that it stands strong with New Jersey residents.
“The right to vote is a hallmark of our democracy, but access to that right to vote is also important. We’re stuck in the Stone Age when it comes to our voting laws, and clearly the people of New Jersey are frustrated. We can change this with these common sense reforms.
“The people of New Jersey have waited too long. Gov. Christie should sign this bill.”
