Speaker Prieto Hails Work of Legislative Investigation into Abuse of Government Power

Welcomes Interim Report on Inquiry that Began in Assembly as Example of Crucial Legislative Oversight

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Hudson/Bergen) released the following statement Monday after the New Jersey Legislative Select Committee on Investigation released an interim report prepared by special counsel:

“I thank the committee and its special counsel for the work it’s done so far.
“Legislative oversight is a hallmark of American democracy, and this investigation – dating back to when it began in the Assembly – will go down as one of the greatest examples of legislative oversight in state history.
“If not for this exemplary work, this abuse of government power and threat to public safety may never have come to light, and this type of unacceptable behavior may still be ongoing. Questions still remain, but the Legislature has done all it could to find the answers. It has done its job well.
“The committee will stand ready to resume its work should the need arise. Meanwhile, this fact-based report will prove invaluable to New Jersey taxpayers, who deserve answers and assurances such abuse of power will never happen again.”
