Speaker Prieto Statement on Sept. 11 Anniversary

(TRENTON) – Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto (D-Bergen/Hudson) issued the following statement today commemorating the 14th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks:

“Today, we pay our respects to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks.
“They say time heals all wounds, but the scars of that day still run deep.
“It’s been 14 years since the attacks, yet it is still difficult to comprehend the immensity of the day and the senseless loss of human life. For those of us who watched it all unfold on our TV sets, it was, and continues to be a haunting image. I can only imagine how the families of the victims feel.
“My thoughts and prayers are with those families who lost loved ones on this tragic day. I hope they are able to find solace and strength in knowing that the entire country mourns with them.
“As we mark the 14th anniversary of the attacks, let’s try not to focus on the evil and brutality behind this horrific act, but the way we came together as a nation. Let’s put our energies into honoring the lives of the people who never returned home, and those who selfishly joined the rescue efforts.
“Let us remember what we are capable of when we come together for a common cause, and pay tribute to the victims by working to make our country a better place to live for all of its citizens.”
